Aggressive yet melancholic black metal is the way of Dantalion. You wouldn’t know its from something else and it’s another release created under “Der Germanske Folket” banner. Dantalion knows its arts because everything is faultless here, the sound as the play. Guitars reminds me of Mutiilation torments, the vocals could be compared to Aes Dana’s singing (fr.) and mid tempo parts, also with acoustic guitars take turns with fast and hammered parts all over the opus. Besides “Call of the Broken Souls” based on the “Santa Compana” probably because the band’s members comes from Galicia. So, they are on the spur of mythical beliefs and thus they chose to give birth to a conceptual album. I said everything is ok with this release. But I have to add that the vocals could enlarge the whole with more variations in my opinion. That’s too bad but not striking too much. I only ask for more. I end with this conclusion: Dantalion is very bewitching because melancholy rises above all and is enough to convince of their art.

Darklife & Interstice sampler 2005 . First I have to say that the packaging of this sampler is pleasing to me very much : mini digipack box is conform to this kind of production. Then, material inside is a good deal because there are 18 various tracks from various artists. A lot of discovering ! The fashion is set at the beginning with the electro track from The Weathermen vs wrlc. The whole reminds me of Die Form parts and it takes us into an underground gothic univers with the addition of samples and the use of a single-string instruments tone. We feel anguish with this track and so we want to know more about the band. Then Neon Electronics play an electro music rather less violent with the use of atmospheric keyboards and EBM influences. This is not what I could listen to usually but this track keeps in your mind after listing to it. BakXIII follow with Suicide Commando influences and add a fetish concept to their music. This track is ok for your dance floor evenings : Fuck you and dance…Everything is said ! We are raised to the pics with this track. Then Grand Chaos come. They chose vocals reduced to robot-like gestures and mid-tempo. It sounds like a dehumanized electro music with a lot of breaks into the rythms and a hypnotic beat into background. Wumpscut influences for sure ! Herr Liebe open a new gate with their s.e.x. track. It comes slowly but for sure : repetitive vocals mixed with a background noise that hangs a quite rythmic over. It makes it original. Mimetic Fake is dark, very dark with anguishing vocals from the beginning to the end of the track. They use oriental influences mixed with slow rythms filled with saturations in the background. They add background vocals which sound like tears. It’s glaucous and I like that ! Then, Moulinet. Far from the electro univers, we’re back into batcave music with their track : saturated guitars with a singer which reminds of Corpus Delicty sometimes. It’s short !…too bad ! We’re living something different with S-Tantale : a mix of medieval and electronic sonorities. It’s very epic and it’s over from other bands which play this kind of music. A good point ! We enter a sung gothic univers with Fintology. A lot of piano and elaborated vocals with a nostalgic tone. It sounds like a pop gothic track. The following of this sampler sounds different. It is more organic in the tone. Macada Pale Horses play a rock music without link with the others bands. No keyboards there but it’s quite good enough to convince you. And what about Artmode vs Mark Pistel ? They call it cyber blues and that’s what it is. A mix of electro and blues music. I never listened to this kind of music before and I have to say that it’s quite good enough to convince you again. Steavy Ray Vaughan could be surprised of it…in another world…but I’m not sure of that and so I would like to know more about it…if I could know…Zodiak Project vs Opak is very curious too : a mix of jazz on rythms with nostalgic melodies on keyboards. Instrumental track that takes you away into a imaginary univers far from this world. This is not the end of the sampler : Floting Mind follow with a rythmic which sounds like a heart beating. It comes slowly with keyboards such as a ritual. Dissonant and bizarre with vocals reduced to robot-like gestures. Very experimental ! We want to know more with this band. Melodie does not look like something sweet. They give you noises full of nightmares. Whisperings on this track bring feeling of anguish and nightmare. And what about Diffuse ? Saturated beats with something like an alarm in the background. Hypnotic, repetitive, martial. It comes in your face such as a military march. Music For the Space follow this way with apocalyptics and space sounds mixed with noisy rythmics. This is not easy listening of course because it’s experimental. Not for everybody ! KK Null has the same approach : experimental and very noisy inside ! We end this sampler with Zeni Geva which take us back to saturated guitars mixed with heavy rythmics. into a sea of lunar rock metal that alternates brutal breaks with lull parts without voices. This composition reminds of various parts of typical metal music saturations with garage sounds. We let our minds losing on this end and we have something to say after the Darklife & Interstice experience : this sampler offer a great diversity and a strong quality for all the artists inside. So, I recommend you to discover Urgence Disk Records (Switz.) quickly. Now let’s talk more about their stuffs into the Diahableries reviews section.

Interesting french band of electro rock metal who mix their electronic variations with vocals influenced by Hubert Felix Thieffaine and French Song. This mcd contains tracks of their full length opus Décors. Their music is a mix of Helmet, Indochine, The Cure, Noir Désir or The Pixies, Dave Clark. So we are back in the 80 years ! We are far from usual dark atmospheres here because Dario are very funny in all parts of their music. Feel free to read the inside cover : they are very proud for their participation to La Sta’Ac in Arras and they wrote it into special no thanks to heading. And what about the sound ? High sound quality and very professional ! They could go a long way with this kind of music. It’s not extreme at all and they do things well. I recommend you to listen to Dario with your family. I reviewed the last stuff of Mutiilation, so you kould think I kould appreciate the work of Darvulia on this ep too. Well, it's an interesting stuff but this is not enough to make an opinion about the musik of Kobat and I don't know if this ep is representative of Darvulia's musik. Don't expekt something else than an underground black metal band with an underground sound. No kompromise there again ! So people will like it bekause they know what this kind of bands does play and other people will hate bekause it's not klean enough. Grim and okkult black metal anyway ! The French band of technical brutal death finally put in concrete form its first album. It contains 8 titles of which an introduction. What make us 7 true titles...After the dark intro which lasts 55 seconds, “Deep in hate” begins the slaughter with the first title “Payback Time”. Their art dumbfounds with mix of technicality and brutality. Effective solos are well controlled, the rhythmics reminds me by moment to Obituary with the influences of Aborted and Gojira. The style of the band is not very original, but for France, we can say that “Deep in Hate” is largely with the top comparatively to the french death metal scene. Thus, the band proposed us a good stuff in spite of the sound mixing which doesn’t emphasize the quality of the compositions…what a pity !… because this new French band deserves to play with the old ones..

DEPECHE MODE « Playing the Angel », 2005 , MUTE. The return to form of D.M. After 25 years of career, Depeche Mode released their 11th studio album “Playing the angel” in the tradition of “Violator” and “Song Faith of Devotion” and “Black Celebration” which reveals to be darkest and a little more subversive than usual. Martin Gore remains the principal writer but for the first time frontman Dave Gahan writes three songs “Suffer well”, “I want it all” and “Nothing’s impossible”. The Dave Gahan’s singing gets richer and sensual. Keyboards flourishes layered atop catchy riffs and propulsive percussions. The more “rock” song appears to be “A pain that I’m used to”, guitar is omnipresent mixed with synthetic cold sound of Mode. “John the Revelator” song reminds us of “I feel you” sounds. “Suffer well” and “Lilian” the most optimistic turns to be darker in the lyrics. And of course the famous song “Precious” in which Martin Gore refers to the feelings inspired by his divorce. We are feeling the pain and suffering of Gore in each song. “The sinner in me”, “Macro” and “damaged people” the most enigmatic, introspective songs remembering some apparently discordant riffs of Black Celebration. “Playing the Angel” is a great and powerful album with the remarkable artwork and videos from Anton Corbjin. The promotional tour dates for "Touring The Angel"2005/2006 began to November till August. The worldwide stage must to be set for the major Depeche Mode comeback.

And that’s what we are awaiting for this kind of music because all tracks are good performed enough. You will be not disappointed at all with this production : It begins with an progressive instrumental introduction with hammered drums sounds. When you listen to it you know there will have no chance to change it until the end of the cd. Then you understand why they are influenced by Marylin Manson when you listen to vocals and rythms on parts sometimes. But they add female voices to intensify the whole in order to create their identity. So they are a quite different from these influences. Listen to Bloken doll to be sure of that ! Sound and production did with professionalism. I think we are going to talk about them with this excellent stuff. They come from France and it’s produced with Sonar association. It comes with a digipack cover with bonus live tracks video like Muckrackers did with their cd-r demo.

Thrash metal is the way of Decline of Humanity. All songs recorded at Walnut Studio in 2004 but the final release finally out in 2007. Death metal, hard-core and above all thrash metal influences inside. Everything is correct with this opus because all tracks are good played enough. However, I didn’t find any identity. Decline of Humanity only plays what other play without original touch. It reminds me of old Sadus sometimes but without shrewdness. Fast and hammered drums mixed with typical thrash metal guitars and vocals which make variations on death metal and thrash metal. That’s all. But I enjoyed the addition of 20 minutes of live bonus taken from their participation to the Killer Fest. Also a video included: “Lethargic Worms”, taken from “Corrosive”. Thus, listen to this opus if you need another thrash metal band. In my opinion Decline of Humanity needs to grow up to persuade of their art and thus to assert themselves.

Dub, trip hop, pop electro, African, Oriental, metal, baroque, Gospel, EBM and much more…12 tracks with different kinds of music because the artist did not choose a mix of all these influences there but much more a kind of music for each track. Thus, it makes the whole very eclectic, you know: It is not obvious and so it is disconcerting sometimes. But feeling and professionalism are there. A bewitching female voice playing with various registers and compass. Dierdre Dubois is a US woman that chose Paris for living since 1991. You maybe know her and much more her work with Ekova because she was discovered with this band in “Le printemps de Bourges”. Dierdre played from Moscow to Francisco and gone through Europa since 15 years. She played with Jean Michel Jarre, also Paul Oakenfold, Julien Lourau and many more. With this stuff called “One”, she puts in concrete form a project with Wayne Frost (Cartesian Lover), Christian Ricau (Anarchic Chic) and Mehdi Haddab (Ekova, Duoud). The whole is as romantic and dark as it is electronic and very rhythmical for dance floors sometimes with love themes. That depends of each track. In other words an open-mindedness is required to enjoy this opus. All parts push Dierdre’s vocals forward and make it very sensual with dreamlike quality. You could compare “One” with Lisa Gerrard, Nina Hagen or maybe Yma Sumac without saying it is the same. Don’t forget that Dierdre takes you away in a poetic adventure without compromise. Therefore, there is no place for usual music.

When _ Angst _ sent me the songs he told me that D.U.F. was nothing but a joke, and that as an anecdote they translated the lyrics from swedish to German, cause you know, German sounds pretty aggressive. And you know what? I had really a lot of fun listening to that E.P. . Not really what you usually expect from an E.P. of an industrial band, but I smiled all along the 20 minutes. I mean, the overall structures of the tracks aren’t that good, some of the vocals are really pathetic, and pretty badly recorded. Which is in some respect a shame ‘cause I really think that a good singer, well recorded could have raised the whole thing up dramatically, now I guess it wasn't their main objective, at least I hope so ! On the instrumental aspect of the band you can hear that they’re playing with the stereotypes of industrial music, but still, for some reason, you end up feeling that it works pretty well sometimes, and you forget the “joke” aspect of the thing, this is what happened to me with “nette fabrik” for instance... But then you hear the singer and you’re back into the joke.

So have fun checking out http://duf.zap.to and guys, if you go back into doing some serious stuff let me know, I would definitely like to check it out.

I think this band was influenced with bands like Krieg. There is a lot of breaks in the tracks but it is less violent than this famous underground band because Duaël plays here more atmospherik and psykotik dark metal than black metal really. The sound of the drums machines give a martial industrial approach sometimes. Also, there is gothic influences with depressive melodies. No pop gothic of course but excellent gothic which could kill any gothic trendie ! It alternate with black metal guitars with tormented and deshumanized voices on typikal black metal changes. Also, they use noise samples like MZ412 known to add to their musik. They say they play black metal celtic. I'm waiting for this because this opus is not celtic at all except with the lyriks. DSK is giving a very sincere, straight to your head, Death metal. This album is not characterised by a crushing production, but by a very live atmosphere, and the album is mixed in that sense. Which means : no trigged drums, no tons of guitar lines, no weird electronic effects. Just some pure old school Death metal. The technical aspect is pretty interesting, the structures are pretty good, the guitar and bass lines are alterning from some very melodic parts to some heavy groovy parts. The main vocal parts are very close to the one of Sven from Aborted with some more Hardcore parts sometimes which is the slightest thing that was necessary to prevent them from being completely boring and adds to the live aspect of the thing.
Aborted seems to me as the main influence of the band, but you will probably recognise the influence of Napalm death, Burnt By the Sun, The Red Chord, the old school American Death metal and also some Swedish influence but they far less present than the American School. To conclude I would say that DSK gave us one of the most sincere death metal that I’ve heard for years. I was actually thinking before that you couldn’t do a good death metal album without a very heavy production anymore, I was wrong. I was just thrown into a pure atmosphere of rehearsal, of a gig.
