Flames of Misery : Keys of Knowledge / 7 tracks (Laurent Zaessinger) 2002 One man's band from France ! This is very difficult to review this stuff because Laurent Zaessinger plays a musik which cannot be classified. No guitars or drums there but keyboards and vokals only ! No samples to give fullness to this opus. Laurent is looking for "purity through misanthropy and abhorrence". So, all tracks are purified from all others instruments except the vokals mixed with keyboards and Gregory Schmid add vokals on track 4 and 6. This is a professionnal material with a quite sound recording. That's all for technikal informations. The composition is influenced with orchestral classic music and all god believers could say that L.Zaessinger make an an awful row. But it's better than this. The "Keys of Knowledge" is original, sick, dark and sometimes it sound like an evil tale. This opus is a war against hypocrisy of humanity and an ode to the individualist thoughts for knowledge. Lyrics talk about childhood innocence , murder desires, human cowardice, revenge and desillusion, and a lot of things about baseness and ignobleness of human beings. You could appreciate this material when you listen to bands like Eros Necropsique or old Mortiis. But this is not a medieval approach or gothik trend. There is no metal touch too ! So, you will love or hate it. I think there is no other alternative. It's elistist...definitively !!!

Forge : War the Only World's Hygiene / 7 tracks (Vidar/Taliesin/F(t)M/Massengrab) / june 2001.This is a cd-r opus with a pro kover ! They play black industrial musik and their madness could reach all of you when you need other sounds than typical "pure" black metal musik. This is experimental sometimes, of course. But the whole still remembers their black metal influences. A lot of samples are there to strengthen the structure. This is very dark and martial with the machines rythms use : sick and great ! Very tortured. When you listen to Darkthrone, In Slaughter Natives, Laibach or G.G.F.H. and Rammstein you should have to listen to Forge too. Are you ready to musikal war ? So, listen to their message written on their cd : "In truth hell you that daily visit to museums, libraries and academies are, for artists, as damaging as the prolonged supervision by parents of certain young people drunk with their talent and their ambitious wills. When the future is barred to them, the admirable past may be a solace for the ills of the moribund, the sickly, the prisoner. But we want no part of it, the past, we the young and strong futurists".

Band : Furor Gallicum
Title : 100 % French black metal (sampler)
Material : cd-R
Label : Brutal Druid Prods

Furor Gallicum : 100 % French black metal (sampler). CD-R 2004. Brutal Druid Prods. A good idea from Brutal Druid Prods with this sampler : 16 l black metal bands from France which are more or less underground. You probably know a lot of them if you are into the extreme underground but that's still a new opportunity to present them anyway: Ases : The return of the ancient lust / Die by Pagan wrath. I like this band definitvely ! This is what the black metal has to be ! Powerful, unhealthy, sick, brutal, hateful with a lot of great melodic and rythmics guitars. A masterpiece ! Otargos : Hordes / Demon's march. Good riffs and various parts for this extreme black metal band. Not original but pleasant. Breizh Occult : Occult Manes / Odin. Raw black metal without compromise. Aura Noire : Sombre chevauchée. Melodic and fast black metal with sick psychotic vocals. Dark Funeral influences sometimes, bewitching guitars and melodic bass parts. Devilish Era : The Satirical Enigma / Under the Aegis of the Megahropist. Influenced by Burzum. Same sick vocals and excellent rythmics. I found sadness, sickness, darkness and melancholy, depressive and cruel atmospheres. A masterpiece again ! Eternal Rest : Ithaqua Ode / L'éternel Combat. The band begins with an ode to Ithaqua and it sounds like a call to Ulysse Land. Black metal with strongly thrash metal influences there ! Then, L'éternel Combat follow this way. A mixture of black and thrash metal. Very melodic sometimes. Osirion : Demetrios Poliorcete Depraved King of Macedon / The secret of the black art. The first track is a Sapaudiae war without any compromise. It's true and glorifying the greats spirits of History. The second track is a cover of Dark Funeral. Nothing to add ! Epheles : Le deuil des innocents. It was a long time ago I didnt listen to this band and I have already said it was a great band by reviewing their stuffs. I still have to say it's magic when I listen to a new track from them. I hope that I could listen to a full lenght opus this time. I'm waiting for it. Reverence : Thorn of Torment / Black spell of destruction. Typical black metal with Bathory and Graveland influences. Pleasant but not new ! I think they have to progress, especially with their drummer. It reminds Infernum and Pagan Eternal that I reviewed for Diahableries Webzine. Their second track is a Burzum cover. Pleasant but I prefer the original. Sons of Fenriz : Le royaume légendaire / Les danseurs de la spirale noire. Just one word : efficacious ! Ein Reich...Le Royaume légendaire ! Sons of Fenriz plays black metal with strong rythmics and without compromise ! Quite good sound enough for this band coming from the East of France. Dance into darkness with them ! Duaël : Roi des celtes / Seigneur des marais. Black metal band influenced by Brittany History. Raw, dark, unhealthy and epic. Taken from their second release. Edelweiss Noire : La reine Isis / Verdun. Raw black metal with strong rythmics. Psychotic vocals mixed with mid-tempo rythms sometimes at the beginning and then fast parts follow. The second track seems to talk about the Verdun city history with good riffs and hateful lyrics. But I think they need a better sound to convince us. Judge by yourself anyway ! Pleasant but not new again ! Deus Inversus : Kings of a downfall cross / The darkest horizon. Vey raw sound production for this extreme black metal band but I find it boring because there is nothing that I feel with their music. Too much repetitive ! Just my opinion ! Insane Vesper : Repentance du Christ / The shadow of Evil throne. Raw black metal with very fast parts and melodic guitars riffs influenced by a lot of famous black metal bands. The first track is very short and the whole is pleasant but don't look for something new. Horrid Flesh : Chemical Assault. Thrash black metal mixed with fast drums. Old Emperor and Dark Funeral influences. Quite sound production. Eternal Majesty : Frost. A famous track that almost people know into the underground. This is Eternal Majesty and that's enough to say. Taken from their first full lenght opus done under the Battleskrs banner. Do you need it ? Ask us for it !
