Gerbe of Life : same / 12 tracks. 2002 Gerbe of Life is a french extreme death metal band. 12 tracks for 20.12 mn rekording only ! Fast and brutal ! They don't like christiannity and pedophily. Nor fastfood or organs traffics either. They understood what "the beauty of the world" is and their musikal brutality is the expression of this. Direct, straightforwardly with a great sound rekording ! 3 tracks of the cd are availables on the Nihilistic Promotions tape reviewed above.

Gerbe of Life + Repudiate split cd : 11 tracks by Gerbe of Life (Seb/Mickael/Christophe/Cedric) / 6 tracks by Repudiate (Mitch Hell/P.O./Arnaud/Nico/David) Do you know the meaning of "brutal death gore metal" ? That's what it is with Gerbe of Life. No less no more ! I reviewed their earlier "same" opus and you find the same tracks of the material there. So I have nothing to add because you can read the review above. You like Inhumate or Nausea...It's for you in that case. Repudiate is a french band but different. Still playing brutal death metal but they add guitars solis with an old school thrash metal touch. So, you can think they are more technikal with their compositions. The sound is ok but not as powerful as Gerbe of Life. Repudiate have good ideas anyway and is more melodik too. So, this stuff is not an original opus really but it is not a crap recording too. It could have an interest for any brutal death metal maniak who want to listen to new brutal metal stuff. You will not be disappointed with bying this french brutal sickness.

Gholgoth : Somnus Mortis Imago (9 tracks / Gholgoth) CD 2003. Ordealis Records. What a funny name for this band ! Gholgoth ! Do they come from space to conquer the earth ? Well, this is not Gwar I think, there ! Gholgoth play black death metal with a lot of influences such as Behemoth, old Immortal, Dark Funeral and Dissection. They play very fast and it's very agressive. It's efficacious because the band mix their brutality with a high production level and with musical technical parts. You will find some typical thrash metal riffs in this opus too. So, it's not really a new kind of metal but an excellent stuff of modern black metal. Have a particular attention to the frontman vocals. It's very dark, powerful and cold. Do you need malefic mixture ? Do you want to follow your Lord in hell ? Feel the darkness from Hungary when you are ok to sell your soul to evil !

New material from France “triturated, broken and refragmented in 2006” by Gabriel S. This is pure industrial tones mixed with electronic parts, isn’t it ? Well, it reminds me of Revolting Cocks sickness mixed with Mz412 noises, In Slaughter Natives samples, also White Dolls extreme violence, Ministry fun, and punk feelings. It is too much various to say it’s harsh tech, techno-industrial music or something else. Thus, you will find a lot of influences inside but don’t expect something such as an electro-metal hybrid music or rock’n roll parts hid in a track. You have to understand that Glaukom Synod is completely “cut and paste” music and so you could believe that it’s a shaggy dog whole. Well, you have to listen to this stuff to make your opinion because it is not easy to describe it thoroughly even if I could add that it’s very oppressive, depressive, deranged, dark and unusual. I recommend you to discover Gabriel’s music if you need new sounds, also new musical experimental experiences. Please, note that there is a remix of “Abyssal Suffering” called “Dawn of the Miserable”, a shredded metal version of “Intense Underground Brainstorm” (Did you know ?), a bizarre remix of “Squeller” called “Centrifugal Morgh Rigsore” and at least a remix of Kabutogani called “Apnoia”. So, Gabriel loves remixs and he does what he does because he grows more and more inventive. Moreover, the outstanding recording of this material intensify the whole. A success, really ! I love that kind of stuffs !

Dark electronic music from Belgium, Gloomy Angel formed end of 2002 with this line up. They played live in Belgium with bands such as Zorglub, Kafka, The Graft…Do you know these bands ? They come from France…! Gloomy Angel are ex – metal and doom bands members and you feel it with their music : 12 tracks of dark electro with strong depressive and oppressive feeling. Black metal influences are mixed with progressive martial parts sometimes. Listen to “Under The Black Moon” and you will understand why. You can use it for dancefloor because rythms are very repetitive but don’t hope to feel joy with it. It’s dark and dark again. Male screams mixed with female vocals which remind of Hanin Elias’s (Atari Teenage Riot) vocals. So it adds electro punk influences to the whole. Maybe because J.P.L. (composer – arranger) played with “Buckweeds” (punk rock band) in the past. Instruments such as church’s keyboards on “Morticia” add dark feeling to their recording and so we have a question to answer : does Gloomy Angel come from darkness definitively ? : Listen to tracks such as “The Wrath of the Demon”, “Under the Moonlight 1”, “La chanson des damnés”, “Hell & Fire” or “Princess of the darkness” to be sure of that ! Quite good production to make an opinion ! Rythms are home made and it is strange because it has not the position as it deserves sometimes. But it’s not a problem when you listen to the whole. It is convincing enough. I have to add that Gloomy Angel alternate their dark feeling with more emotional parts on tracks such as “Death Castle” at the end of this opus. So, they know how to do without playing the same track again and again. This stuff is varied enough to get not bored with their music. Maybe not the best new original stuff I listened to but an interesting opus for sure.

Gnostic : Evoking the Demon (11 tracks / Gnostic) CD 2003. Ordealis records. Raw black metal from the USA with death and grind metal parts indise. It reminds the chaos of Krieg or Blasphemy demos riffs sometimes. It's very underground especially with the raw sound they chose to convince us. You will like it if you are not desappointed with the sound of stuffs such as Mutiilation releases. No compromise and no subtety nor subtilization there ! It's a call to war for those who want to live and to die by the sword. Powerful, violent, efficacious but not a masterpiece. It comes with a video cd-rom part that contains more than 47 minutes of the band desecrating the stage in front of small audience. This is real underground !

GRANDCHAOS « Ionize me », electro industrial music This latest EBM EP from Grandchaos is gathering some tracks created between 2003 and 2004 released by Urgence disk record, a label from Switzerland. This Belgian band, is adding on the so much crowded Belgian electronic scene. Their music remembers the electronic music from 80’s with a touch of technoid sounds. The sound is cold and soft, voices are dark, tortured and robotic on the path of “Klinic”, “Front 242”, and “Tumor” but more minimalist and repetitive. Undoubtedly “Ionize me” (138 BPM), “Dream Factory” “From the outside” tracks are aiming at dancefloors and reveals to be interesting. “From the outside”, leading track from the album, bring us in a dream world, sounds a little bit as in trance music. After several EPs, their music is unfortunately lacking of diversities because of so repetitive loops, as in ”Horror” and “Ionize me” (100 BPM) which remains unimportant and annoying tracks but we have to pay attention to their music in the future. A last comment on the astonishing artwork of Jirko, which underlines the robotic and cold effect of the music.

Band : Guerilla Underground
Title : Sampleur
Material : cd
Label : Guerilla Underground

Note :

This sampler unite bands of Guerilla Underground catalogue. It begins with Horrid Flesh. This band plays death metal with black metal influences. Vocals alternate typical death metal screams with black metal vocals. 2 tracks taken from their Human Configuration demo (7 tracks, 2002). It’s powerful and they chose an excellent sound production to make the whole. Their material is limited to 500 items. Tracks : 001 – Sword of Sin, 002 – Antithesis of Conception Then Hymen follow with a concept about Love. Their music is described as an electro experimental metal. In my opinion it’s more influenced by bands such as Crematory and they mix these influences with a funny jazz part with the first track. Then symphonic keyboards on metal parts are mixed with noises samples. It make the whole very heterogene. Two tracks taken from their love demo (9 trakcs, 2003) : 003 – Horizontal, 004 – Love. La Division Mentale appears on this sampler with 1 track taken from their Syndrome material (3 tracks, 1998). The choosen one is Murder/Mutilation and it’s a mix of fast black death metal with electro samples. So they play an extreme electro metal on this track. Listen to their others tracks with Guerilla Underground and you’ll understand it’s violent and extreme too. Efficacious but too short really !…Too bad ! Then DSM comes with a techno gothic core music for tormented minds. Production is good enough to make an opinion : Hammered drums and noises alternate with gothic melodies with a lot of electronic samples and breaks on the first track. The second track is less original because it’s more a typical gothic track. Two excellent songs : 006 - Speak to me, 007 – Naked God. Taken from their Autosuggestion demo (7 tracks, 2001). Guerilla Underground chose to add remix on this sampler. Here it’s done by La Division Mentale and Absent : 008 – Domination (L.D.M.) : Interesting mix of black metal and electro music such as Forge could perform. 009 – Love (Absent) : Absolutely sick ! An excellent variation of the original track. Absent is definitively imaginative with the use of samples. These tracks should be choosen with the forthcoming Guerilla Remix opus in 2005. Then, two tracks of Absent. It is not new that this project is really great in my opinion. Please read the full review above. Don’t miss the train with this band because they know how to create new felling, melodies and darkness while remaining emotionnal. And what about their influences : Aphex Twin, FM Einheit, Mogwaï, Murcof, Nobukazu Takemura, The Third Eye Foundation, To Rococo Rot… Tracks : 010 – Variations/Expérimentations, 011 – Chronos (from Absent demo : 10 tracks, 2004). The sampler end with Untel. It’s completely different from the rest. Less sick, less violent…Well, Untel plays something else which is described like post rock. 2 tracks taken from their Etat 1 demo (4 tracks, 2000) : 012 – Tempete, 013 – Ciné [cypher mix] Their music is more atmospheric than everything else. Very sweet, slow, slowly…Listen to it before dreaming ! Not too bad at all because sound is
good enough. So, a good point again for this band.
