Hanagorik : For Kids with Some Problems.../ 9 tracks (Daniel/Tuca/Jones) 2001Is this musik for kids with some problems ? Well, it is not ! This is for those who can mix thrash and hardcore musik. I say crossover ? Less D.R.I. than Sick of It All and Biohazard influences. Add Sepultura influences for the musik and the voice and you get a band which know to play their brazilian hardcore. Brazilian I said ?...no traditional influences there really except for the rythmik drums sometimes and an oriental melodie on a track which remind Black Sabbath. Also, this is very different when the singer really sing and don't scream. It bring more variations. Hanagorik prove they know to compose and create with a great sound quality. This is not their first release and they played in great brazilian festivals. So, listen to their musikal experience !

Hard of hearing ' out their first one and promising Ep of 5 titles. 5 titles of violent metal core, melodic and especially very technical will be enough to put everybody all right: this band has some future! The excellent and fascinating composition is linked throughout the titles with a remarkable transparency, the complexity of the rhythmic is not even an embarrassment on the contrary! It is the main asset of the band. Although composition is technical. There is no annoying and boring superfluous excess which would mask a lack of originality as it is often the case in this music style. The roarings of the singer are perfectly controlled and measured, most either no tiredness of roarings without any sense. By hoping that this EP introduces a future complete album into the same lineage. The challenge is thrown for Hard of Hearing! to be followed ..

Hegemon : By this, I conquer / 9 tracks (A./F./Kreyz/J.B./N.) 2002 After their first release with Sacral Productions, Hegemon strike back with a technikal black metal. They chose the Dysphorie french label this time. This is the first deal for the label well known for his extreme metal musik store in Paris. Hegemon recorded "By this, I conquer" into the Montpellier (France) Tymix studio and they did it so well because all the tracks have a great sound quality. Quite sound arrangements with a lot of influences as early Emperor, Gorgoroth, Immortal and Dark Tranquillity opus. The typical black metal vokals are seconded with death metal addeds and the mix of melodik variations with their powerful and dark black metal brutality is the best I listened to this month (december, 2002). The lyriks are influenced with worldwide conflicts and especially medieval wars. Short classic arpeggios effect a transition between the tracks before to conquer again with determination their full of hate epik quest. "By this" they progressed with brio and deserve all your attention now ! Hegemon is a great french black "war" metal band. Support them or move along. I have nothing to add !

Three obscure death metal bands from Europe inside : Hellspawn comes from Poland, Hateful from Italy and Impureza from France. Each of these bands plays brutal metal with differents influences such as Morbid Angel, Gorefest, Suffocation and Nile. Impureza comes with flamenco and Deicide as the leading influence and all the spiritual subjects inspire them. This mix is quite pleasant and original. Also all the lyrics are in Spanish langage. Nice for a French band ! Very interesting because they do it to perfection. I didn’t begin this review with the first band of this stuff. So, here I go : Hellspawn is not the fictitious creature that you could imagine from the popular comik book Spawn but a typical brutal death metal band with a lot of breaks and tempo changes. When Morbid Angel comes back on the first track of this opus, you can be sure that you are listening to Hellspawn. Great lead guitars inside even if it is not very new with this kind of music. And what about Hateful, the second band of this opus ? Well, they do likewise and a bit faster than Hellspawn without lead guitars but with thrash influences. It reminds of old Immolation or even Sadus sometimes. Maybe not the better sound on this stuff but yet efficient. All of these bands chose very typical deep vocals and powerful music without any compromise. It is usual when you listen to brutal death metal of course but quite enough to make an opinion. I didn’t know them before and I was not disappointed especially with Impureza. They should become very stronger with their next releases. Thus, this stuff has an big interest with this band. The other bands are more conventional.

Band : Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a sort of Frank enstein’s monster, each time you have a look at it, you see some different parts. Parts that remind you of other people. If you play this album, lots of different influences will come to your mind such as Extatic fear, Opeth, Decapitated, and above all Gojira. Hypnosis is sharing with them lots of technical patterns, especially in terms rhythm, riffs, vocals, and atmosphere. Hypnosis is also composed of two vocalist, a woman and a man, who are both also playing guitars, on bass player, and it seems that they’re using a drum machine, even if it’s far from being obvious when you’re listening to the album. I just thought that the guy was just using some really cold sounds to trigg the drums and that’s all. This album is full of little surprises, that makes the 60 minutes of the album not really horribly boring as most of the album does. Still it is definetly pretty long and sometimes boring. The funny thing is that I was often thinking, “year, that’s cool but if they added that kind of element that would be perfect”, and 15 seconds later they would. So in other words, Hypnosis is a really impressive work, that I would definetly recommand to people seeking for an album in the same vein of Gojira. But still, Hypnosis has to go on to reach their own sound and atmospheres, and I’m sure that their next production will be awesome.
