When black metal meets electro music, it makes an obscure and odd entity called “La Division Mentale”. Ten oppressive tracks created by Cypher with Babylone Chaos and Absent contribution for the best result. Not sound in mind at all, this stuff sounds like tormented feelings from a deranged subconscious and lost. Dark, sick and dreamlike with hammered and recurred words such as “Je suis condamné”, “la souillure”, “le blaspheme”, it leads you in a clinical also maybe psychiatric ectasy. Violence and sickness “über alles” inside ! The mix of black metal, electro parts and samples addition is as blameless as inventive and the production is quite good enough to make an opinion. Harsh tech and black metal influences make the whole very attractive and efficient. Also Cypher seems to have an interest with horror movies sound-tracks because it could easily remember you to a lot of them if you are in the habit of this kind of movies. Then, Mriik with his harsh vocals and “sick interpretation” intensifies the whole on strident guitars mixed with hammered drums. Guests joined this sickness : Mg (narration vox), also Yd (Absent) and Bk (Babylone Chaos) for electro tracks. Creativeness, boldness and sickness are the words to define “L’extase des fous”. A master piece therefore !

Lex Talionis : Inhuman Violence / 8 tracks (Jeremy/Pierre-Marie/Nicolas Gleize/Yannick Morisset) 2002.This is the first opus of this french metal band influenced by Nocturnus, Coroner and Yngwie Malmsteen. It's very extreme sometimes bekause they use full blast drums machines which sound as a tommy-gun and it's inkreased with death metal vokals as Nocturnus did. But even if it is extreme they mix this brutality with a lot of melodik guitars parts influenced by Classic musik and add it to thrash or death metal guitars riffs. Remember Yngwie Malmsteen. They mix lead guitars melodies and sometimes keybords with harpsichord sound with their tommy-gun drums machine and kreate unusual metal koncept like this. Also, there is a lot of heavy metal breaks which prove they kan play all kind of metal. It's a very interesting stuff when you can appreciate musik without a real drummer bekause all musikal ingredients are successfully mastered there. And what about Lex Talionis inspiration ? Well, they draw it from Cajus Julius Caesar, Charles Martel, Louis XIV and Napoléon Ier historical past. Inhuman Violence is out under the Dead Sun Records banner and their next opus will be available by this label again.

Imagine you kan mix Yngwee Malmsteen and Nocturnus with blasting drums ! Lex Talionis is a band with an affirmed musikal identity and I have to say this opus is a sukcess. Teknikal powerful parts and varied breaks with a quite sound rekording and excellent produktion. Nothing to add !...sublime ! A Dead Sun Records

LGB : Nos plus belles années (LGB) 2003.No, no, no, this is not "french techno parade" !!! But it's a french band, that's for sure ! This is not the new Tonton David or Pierrepoljack too ! LGB plays funny grind kore and rekorded this stuff into a french University. Raw sound rekording. They added some speech to the end of this stuff and only the LGB lovers will appreciate bekause they will understand it. When you are not into LGB attitude delirium, you'll think this is boring and too much long. Please note that I'm talking about the speech to the end of the stuff and nothing else. All of the tracks have a "funny" interest even if this is not sick or cheeky enough. Titles as Tchatcha, Gling gling, Annonnn !!! look like a warning from a funny advisory ! The thanks list is wonderful too : Les Pov'mecs, J.C Vandamme, Les Bidons d'Huile, Christophe Lambert, Laure Sinclair...LGB musicians play good enough and I hope they will be more brassy to kreate more "funny delirium variations" next time. I think it will be done for a next opus...probably ! So, it's a good stuff but not an excellent opus because we could expect more sick funny parts...as the kover is and as I like it !

LGB : Tendrement...18 tracks (LGB) 2004. Demo Cd-r.

Band : Life’s Decay

Life’s Decay is a French band composed of Lyktwasst (instruments, samples, artwork and visual arts) and Alea (feminine voice). “Lysselia” is their third release after their birth in 2003 and it was recorded during 2005 until 2006. 12 tracks of romantic, gothic, dark fairyhood and atmospheric music with the use of keyboards and sweet dark melodies. Thus, Lyktwasst use violins sounds and martial rythmics often and Alea put her linear voice on haunting classical melodies. Their music reminds of Dead Can Dance sometimes, also Mylene Farmer and Marie from Malicorne, especially with the sweet feminine voice. It is such as a mix of those artists with a very minimalist and bewitching touch at the same time. Also they add industrial sounds to their classical violins on the “Sphere” track which sounds like an instrumental transition before to offer five last tracks of dark and sweet romantic melodies again. The production of this stuff is very good because the mix of the instruments is fautless. Nevetheless the voice of Alea is too much linear in my opinion and there is notenough voices to intensify their minimalist music or maybe it could be better with the addition of other instruments that could be really played. I should be completely charmed with the Alea’s voice if she would extend her possibilities with lyrical parts. Moreover, the man’s voice on the second track bring a awesome feeling. It is too bad that he does not sing on the other tracks with Alea. So, this is what I felt with the listening of this opus : a lot of excellent parts inside but something to do more to intensify the whole. And what about the lay-out ? Something such as a mix of a neo-gothic and industrial painting with influences of politic propaganda picts created in the Europe’s past. This mix is successful. I love it ! Now you have to make your opinion : enter their strange fairyland to discover dark feelings of a man and a woman in a strange blending.

“Szilentia” is the fourth release of Life’s Decay since 2004 and it is constituted of Lyktwasst (music) with Alea (vocals) since 2005. This is the second release that I review with Diahableries. With “Szilentia” the band still uses a martial lay-out that drawns its inspiration from propaganda of dictatorial Regimes born in the 20th Century, especially in Europe. But their music do not really generate a martial Thematic because they enlarge the whole with neo-romantic, pop, electro and new wave influences. It is such as a dark fairy tale between a women and a man. Remember Rimbault and Baudelaire, like a “spleen et ideal”: So, I’m loving you, you’re loving me, I’m loosing you, you’re loosing me, feel joy, feel sadness and next depression you could be lost in your dreams…something like that, you know ! With “Szilentia”, Life’s Decay’s music is still dark and romantic with martial rhythmics, classical violins, piano and accordion. Therefore, it makes the whole efficient enough because their art makes use of the sound that you maybe used to listen to in the eighty years. The production of this opus effectively reminds me of old Dead Can Dance, Mylene Farmer, Bonnie Tyler or A-Ah productions. So, Life’s Decay programmations seems to get out from the past; a sound with a indisputable kitsch touch, to be honest, and this is their strength really. So, back to the eighty years with “Szilentia” !!! At last Life’s Decay’s compositions are more various than in the past this time and make this opus very bewitching.

Warpaint, black and white layout, depressive and cold music … all this caracteristics lead the band to the french black metal scene. Simplex mortalis sound traditional black metal with raw vocals which are mixed back towards the music. This demo remind me 90’s style : the first Graveland’s albums. By and large, the content is original against the new band in this scene. Good riffs, good vocals, good mix…un name to remember.

Lucky Striker 201 is a French musical project with Sylvicious from Tamtrum. The Tamtrum drummer comes with Wbr (bass guitars) and Caedes Akirohan (vocals, guitars, samples) this time. An emotional composition of glam rock, electronic and industrial music. This opus takes you away during 50 minutes and it’s quite enough to discover their art. It is not what I listen to everyday but I have to admit that everything sounds great there. First, there is nothing to say about the opus recording because everything done with an high sound quality there. Then, all musical instruments take their place with perfection : saturated vocals with tormented parts, heavy and thrash metal influences with the guitars, acoustic parts, atmospheric keyboards and a lot of mid-tempo with the drums make the whole very melodic and gothic sometimes. Don’t expect to the most violent stuff you never heard there because the band grant not a privilege to the darkest emotions. They chose more melodic and atmospheric feelings. Listen to the ninth track for your dance floor evening and enjoy the pop melodies with all the tracks. Be sure you will expect some sweet songs melodies with Lucky Striker 201 even if this record seems to remain in a dark approach of human condition. Just have a look to some tracks titles to understand it : “Insane” or “Tokyo Vitriol”.
It is not the more original opus I listened to but it is very enjoyable to listen to it from time to time because they did it with a professional touch. Also, this opus is free. The band do not want to get money with it. They just want revolution. No less, no more ! Thus, you can download the whole at their “url” or with “Diahableries” into our downloads section. Download it and go to see them on stage ! You will be not disappointed.

I always enjoy labels or people who give an opportunity to discover bands. This sampler comes with seven bands from France. It begins with HORRESCO REFERENS : two tracks of modern thrash metal with good heavy inventive parts. Without being very original, this band plays with an high musical level. Everything blends perfectly with technical compositions. Then SWEET SILENCE follow. Don’t expect some sweet musical parts but thrash core metal with hard core vocals. Keyboards add an electronic touch with the first track. It reminds of old Neurosis or Kickback with the vocals sometimes but it is quickly different because they mix the whole with atmospheric female vocals parts to intensify strong rythmic guitars. Melodic backing vocals gives an impressive progressive and heavy touch. Very technical and professional. Then, we listen to MALADAPTIVE, an heavy glam metal with short death metal parts on the first track. Very melodic even if you use it for dance floors. It is not what I listen to everyday but I allow that they know how to be efficient. Their second track comes with thrash death metal influences and they add strong technical guitars parts. More powerful than the first track but still glam rock and now neo metal influences. Quite sound recording to make an opinion ! So, interesting tracks ! MYLIDIAN comes with different musical influences. Did they listen to bands such as Onslaught and Cradle of Filth ? I think so ! Typical heavy metal with great lyrical backing vocals mixed with musical theatrical influences. It sounds like a dark fairy-tale with perfection. It could take you away. It took me away. Then THE OUTBURST kill everything with a melodic neo thrash metal mixed with oriental influences in the vocals. It sounds like System of A Down sometimes and their second track add pop musical parts. All of these bands play metal and it is a surprise to listen to HERRSCHAFT after it because Herrschaft is quickly different with their industrial and electronic music. They do not forget guitars parts but it is far away from metal bands. Two tracks about “humanicide” taken from their forthcoming stuff. Interesting inventive parts that reminds of Rammstein sometimes with their martial rythmics. Also the vocals are very brutal because their singer screams all the time and add some effects to intensify his voice. Thus, they play an oppressive dark music and it comes with a high sound recording for a first record. You will not be disappointed at all with their material. This sampler ends with WORMFOOD. Well, imagine thrash metal mixed with an horror movie’s soundtrack. That’s what it is on this sampler. Some good parts, especially with their backing vocals that sound like a strange ceremonie into an abbey or maybe a ceremonie into a strange abbey. I recommend you this sampler cd because it has a high quality level and it is for free. So, what are you waiting for ?
