Well, when I received this record I was like, Great ! A stupid Grindcore record ! That’s exactly what I needed ! I was wrong. Magnum Carnage is a strange delirium of some Black and Heavy metal fans. The production is horrible, the singer is quite bad but as he’s mixed pretty low you can’t really be sure of what he’s actually doing. They use a drumming machine, some keyboard and the classical guitar/bass duo. This is usually the kind of blending of elements that makes me want to throw a record away. But well, I gave it a shot, and I must admit it was worth. I finally entered in their delirium as I would enter a Fantomas or a Tomahawk album, and even if they don’t have the talent of a Mike Patton it sort of functions. After a while, you end up smiling at the multitude of reference present in the record. And actually at the end of the E.P. you’re like, “What? Already?” So congratulation guys, you made me like it ! Oh and the origin of the guys is worth noticing, these guys are from Honolulu, Hawai !

This is the second stuff that I review from Aura Mystique label, after a French black metal band called “Crystalium”. This time, it’s “Malleus Maleficarum” and it’s a French band again. With “Nothing left to fight for” they chose a mix of black metal with doom heavy parts. Thus it makes the whole as powerful as melodic. This opus recorded between 25 and 31 December 2005 with adds in March and June 2006. Except a martial introduction that is worked out, all compositions do not draw the opus out because the whole is very usual for that kind of music. But it is pleasant and bewitching sometimes by the use of practised melodies on powerful and hammered rhythmics, even with acoustic parts. Moreover, melancholy parts contrast and therefore make the opus varied enough. It is very slow sometimes, ambient and painful such as sadness and despondency are. Thus, “Malleus Maleficarum” art is very tormented without turning into a corner-stone. So, a good stuff without being excellent. The mix and mastering are faultless and all track are yet quite good played enough to make an opinion. But it is neither more nor less than a good stuff without becoming essential because originality is not suitable there even with electronic and industrial parts insertion.

Malignance : Regina Umbrae Mortis / 8 tracks (Malignance) 2002.This is the second opus of this Italian band. They recorded their debut MCD Ascension to Obscurity in september 2001 and did a change of line-up with the drummer for this new release. Eight songs of raw, extreme and true black metal with a lot of old school black metal influences. Guitars parts are fucking good because it's played as Destruction (Ger.) did it so well in the past : raw aggressive melodies with rythms at full blast. I love it ! But this is not a copy of old thrash metal bands or black metal beginning because they added others influences as atmospheric or lyrics and epic parts to their voices which sometimes remind Cradle of Filth. They created a very obskure and intensive black metal musik and this is not a plagiarism at all. They definitively found their identity with this opus. Recorded in the end of october 2002 with a raw sound production, Malignance belong to the real underground and sure is going to conquer other territories. I got a cd-r for this promotional stuff but I have to add, before to close, that you'll get a professionnal stuff if you buy it. And I close by saying we have great extreme bands in Europe as Malignance. Why ? I told you why and almost all of the band members came from Dreamlord, an epic black death metal band. So, listen to them.

Melek-tha : Perfect world eradication (Lord Evil) 2004. Cd. Melek-tha is a french projekt of Lord Evil. Dark ambient ritual kould be the word to describe his musik. Minimalist and oppressive. A lot of samples mixed with distortioned drums. Dont' expect metal melodies inside but arranged noises with a lot of effekts. I think that there is a koncept behind this kind of cerebral musik. No lyriks like you kould find it into typikal songs but kuted lyriks pasted and pasted again to invite you to the end of a world ( this world ?...which world ?...just imagine it !) and a birth of a new world. Tracks titles illustrate it kompletely : pain, the infinite trauma, terminal suffering, doctrines of the new society, you are the slaves, we are the masters. It's very kold and depressive and I found it tribal sometimes by listening the sekond track. Imagine a mix of Mz412 and Muslimgauze without black metal and oriental influences. This kould be Melek-tha for sure ! Imagine a koma of a dying man on an hospital bed. This is Melek-tha ! Lord Evil's wife joined this procession to add skreamings. What kind of skreamings ? Well, bizarre torments skreamings ! Open the door and feel the darkness of Melek-tha world ! Take your last breath !

Midwinter was born in the 2000 year with the “Chauty” brothers. They played rock metal with a female voice in the past and they called their band “Nutshell”. With “The Glassy Waters”, Midwinter is just different: a symphonic metal piece with female and soprano vocals. You could remind of bands such as Nightwish but Midwinter offer differents moments of deep rock, gothic, also heavy and speed metal parts. It’s as easy listening as bewitching. A lot of melodies run over the whole with great arrangements. Also sometimes tracks are very speed metal and sometimes they are not because they choose mid-tempo too. Otherwise, there is a Gun’s and Roses cover that contrasts this opus. It was not the better idea to add this song to “The Glassy Waters” in my opinion. Nevertheless, it does not spoil this stuff because there is a lot of excellent parts with a perfect production for this kind of music. Pierre-Emmanuel Pelisson (Heavenly) has been chosen for it and it’s a success. But the female voice maybe not so good with her low-pitched parts. It is the only point I was disappointed with. The deep tones of the voice does not seems correct all the time. Nevetheless, the soprani parts are wonderful and it raises the whole to the top because they mix it with blameless guitars soli and powerful rhythmics.

This is the first “vs” review with Diahableries (maybe not the last !). HssH and Huruem didn’t agree about the last Misanthrope’s release : Metal Hurlant. So it’s time for you to read their reviews and make your opinion.

HssH review :
Note : DDDDD

We come to the heart of the matter after few minutes with this opus. A blameless sound ! Each instrument is quite mastered for the final mix. It is usual with this French band but I found it better than ever this time because the whole is maybe more powerful. We fall into darkness with their death metal mixed with thrash and heavy influences. The greater part of this material is given to technicality with a lot of breaks for each track. Everything is going on in all directions and you could be out of joint this way except if you’re not looking for easy listening or when you are not searching for trendy melodies. You will enjoy this stuff if you have the same ambition than Misanthrope : Misanthrope become the response to your quest when you explore a univers with new sound tracks freely and without easiness such as a leitmotiv or a craving of knowledge which is intrinsically growing up. You will be not disappointed at all. So, it’s time to bring out the words about this stuff where different feelings are joined : Very unexpected psychedelic female backing vocals; keyboards mixed with death metal parts on the second track that reminds of Nocturnus. The band add samples to intensify it; great technical lead guitars part without abuses with the third track : very classical lead guitars but strongly efficient. Innocence, Pureté, Martyre, échafaud take you away with the following track…à la mort du roi…1793. Misanthrope use French langage and I found that it’s a good point because I listen to Killers (fr.) maybe but it’s not easy to understand what the singer is screaming this time except when he uses a doleful tone. Misanthrope’s singer is quickly different from Bruno Dolheguy with his voice of course. You could liken it to Anorexia Nervosa’s singer sometimes and he doesn’t use vocals melodies to intensify the whole. It’s more depressive and tormented than everything else. The filth track comes with death and thrash metal parts that alternate with heavy metal parts without being boring at all. It’s a matter of fact with this band because they play with a very high level of musical technicality. All tracks move with the same construction. Yngwie Malmsteen is not so far at all when you listen to their lead and rythmic guitars. We listen to doom parts with tracks such as Reine Martyre too. Sorrow and darkness are coming quickly with Metal Hurlant. Maybe the most depressive and the most dark track of this opus. The whole seems to talk about religious philosophy in France (under the Monarchy Reign ?), and Misanthrope enter upon mythology with tracks such as Sur le Haras d’Amazones. But I didn’t get the lyrics. So, I can’t say more about that. The opus ends strongly with Le Supplicié. Imagine extreme parts of Deicide mixed with Immortal influences with mid-tempo variations ! It ends with success of course because technicality is still neverending…again and again ! I have to add there is no bonus with the promotional material that they sent us. But you will find two new tracks with two English alternative versions on their digipack cd. Also feel free to look at their four live tracks on mpeg video cd-rom included with this digipack.

A long time ago I met a very nice girl. She wasn’t very tall, dark haired, with glasses, thin, with a skin as white as milk, and with the kind of body that everybody would love to caress. She was pretty smart, but she had two flaws, firstly she was deeply depressed, and secondly she had a very high pitched voice that was nearly unbearable sometimes. I felt the same feeling while listening to this album : the line up is definitively good, the songs are quite well written, but there wasn’t any alchemy. The lyrics are in French langage and I must admit that the last time I listened to a band singing in french was a looOOOoonngg time ago, so I was pretty perturbed by that. But the most important probleme is, to me, a lack of general cohesion and efficiency. The songs are going in lots different direction, going through heavy thrash riffs, sustained by death metal drums parts, and some black atmospheric keyboard parts. A kind of strange merge between children of bodom, Dimmu borgir and Death. Sounds strange? It is. Just one last positive aspect : The bass player must be one of the greatest I heard this year.

Well describing this stuff is pretty easy in the sense that it’s pretty much like going in a factory with plenty of machines and working by itself, without any human being around. It is full of some little strange noise, distant screams, that creates a sort of strange atmosphere. Just like the kind of sound that you could have heard in a X-Files episode. It’s is far from being an intense record as the style suggests, but still there are some pitches here and there, and a search for progression. The record is really long, it lasts 60 minutes and the first song lasts more than 11 minutes. So you have plenty of time to enter in the atmosphere of Mord, a really cold strange atmosphere, the best companion for a really dark contemporary role playing game. BUT, ‘cause there is a but, there is only one thing that I don’t understand in this record. Where is this progression going to? Is there an aim? Because I’m afraid there is none, and that’s what this record lacks, a cohesion, an objective. Anyway, it is good, and I definetly recommend you to check it out.

Quite good sound. This band does not offer biographic informations in an attempt to remain enigmatic. Muckrackers #4. By Sagoth comes back with this new opus and this stuff is very originalbecause of the sound. As usual their packaging is still bizarre : a cd-r with a strange box, a sticker and a badge. It’s a blessed thing that they come with hartek indus influences this time and it’s a blessed thing that they do not forget their metal influences too. There is a lot of old tracks remixes and new musical material. Their minds are still tormented and they still use covering on their faces. Listen to Leer to understand that they know how to play indus metal. They alternate with ambient and hypnotic tracks sometimes such as tenz mit feur which are completely different. Their world is sick and we travel into this world which is composed of oppressive rythms. Then we end it with a video bonus where you discover a track of the band to see them on stage. Be sure it’s a full length cd-r there with a high level music quality because they know how to mix organic and mechanic in their music while remaining original and glaucous. I’m waiting for their next stuff and you have to know that this opus is limited to 50 items...too bad !

Muckrackers : I didn’t get off scot-free with this new stuff. Gain experience of Muckrackers “Rot Front 36” because this last recording is very interesting ! We reviewed their preceding stuff with Diahableries and we do it again with this “Rot Front 36”. Their new stuff comes with two cds into a dvd box. One cd will martyrize your eyes and the other cd will kill your tympanums. First, let’s talk about the first cd : It includes the “Rot Front 36” video : gigs parts mixed with revolution and war historical reports samples. They devote it to members of resistance movements. It’s urgent to see them on stage because they are convincing enough with their samples included into the video. I don’t tell you more about it. I will let you discover it. And what about Muckrackers music with this stuff ?…I was not disappointed really. They begin with “Rot Front 36”. You are immediately wined with this track. They still mix industrial parts with hart tek variations and they use strong guitars to intensify the whole. They alternate ambient parts with techno beats and they mix it with voices samples to intensify the whole again. They add it to their sick real vocals parts which do the rest to increase the pression. Then “Ask Question Later (mix)” follow and it’s quite different because they use more strange and atmospheric feeling. Also, they are more influenced by Ministry when they scream on this track. So, this second Mix is soothing. Less violent ! But they come again with strong and violent parts with their third Mix. You want to destroy everything when you listen to it. Historical revolution samples fit with compositions of the band and it’s a success. I will not tell you everything about each track because there is too much to say. Whole of this stuff is an original industrial music and it’s representative from this band. I’m very happy with this French musical discovery. I recommend this stuff to all people who want to listen to strong industrial sounds that mix brutality with ambient and noise feeling. I just have one reproach to express : there is a drop in potential at the end of this stuff. What a pity ! Tracks are so strong sometimes and we want more ! But there is still a calm after the storm and it does not change my opinion in any case : this stuff has an high quality recording with an excellent production. Bravo again to the French national Muckrackers !!!

Destroy your life for Satan is the explicit message of Mutiilation which started in 1992 and still introduce you to torments and words of evil 'till the begining. Mutiilation did a lot of ep, demos, lp and cds releases with depressive feeling and a symbolization of what dekadence is and of what it should be for people who believe into black metal. I diskovered this band with the Black Millenium opus and I found it great. I listened to 1992-2002 the years of depressive destruction and I had the same feeling. And what about Majestas Leprosus ? Well, if you like this band, you will not be disappointed bekause this opus is very tormented again and this is the most sick and dark tracks I ever heard until now, except on other Mutiilation releases. Still raw as other Mutiilation releases, Majesta Leprosus is a koncept album : From the Evil Vortex... introduce you to three pure evil tracks. And I have to say that I found a lot of impressive guitars simple melodies on this opus. I like to listen to these guitars parts as I listened to old Destruction (Ger.) guitars in the past. Only old real metal maniaks kan understand it. Then follow Predominance of Belzebuth with three another tracks and this opus end with three tracks ...to the Suicidal Void. Do you will suicide by listening this sick musik ? Well, you have to do your choice. If you ask me, I'll try to survive to listen to it again. A great stuff really ! The best tracks I think you have to listen to are Tormenting My Nights, Bitterness Bloodred, Beyond the Decay of Tme and Flies and The Ugliness Inside. Come on to their darkness and feel their melancholy and depressive konsonances. You will love it when you accept a lot of lead scale guitars on a par with Steve Vai or Yngween Malmsteen guitars . But M.F. don't play heavy metal at all. They added piano parts influenced by klassic music and taken from Schubert, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven repertoire. Also, klear female vokals added to typikal black metal voices variations. So, this is not primitive at all and all members play with a high instrument level. Everything is o.k for this stuff except sound which is too much raw for this atmospherik masterpiece. But you can enjoy it if you got used to"true underground sound". Their stuff is interesting but perhaps it's not original enough. So, you can appreciate their work if you are not looking for something new because they know how to play this kind of metal.
