Do you know the glory of Death metal in Europa since 1990 ? Remind of Malevolent Creation, Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death and many more…This time it is called “Tales of Blood”, and it is made in France. Five tracks of typical death metal with gore elements. Listen to the lyrics to be sure of that: “Carved in the bath”, “Skinned alive”, “Perforate, gut, punch!”…gore influences give the pitch to the whole. Do you like it ? Everything is ok with the sound, production, mix, mastering, you know ! But don’t expect something original and new there. This opus is for death “gore” metal addicts only because it’s just another death metal stuff among thousand death metal stuffs. I know they played with Morbid Angel at La Loco in France and played other gigs elsewhere. Maybe they know how to convince on stage. I don’t know. But this stuff is too much typical and also too much linear in my opinion. That’s too bad because the sound and the play are very good. Listen to them with their “myspace” page and let me know if I’m right or wrong.

Tamtrum began his history in 2003 with their first release “Atomik Suicide”. They don’t hesitate with usual provocations about cocaine, alcohol, sex and other famous shits around “sex, drugs and rock’n roll”. The kind of shit that does not rise people, you know. But they know how to program their music: a powerful mix of dark electro, transe, pop and hammered rhythms with screamed vocals. And they have success in Poland charts, also in a lot of clubs. So, people like it. So, people need it. I do not contest it. I’m only fed up with this “punk” feelings. But I have to admit that they apply good ideas with their musical arrangements even if it’s too much linear or unvaried sometimes, in my opinion. However, they alternate powerful parts with atmospheric parts enlarged with dreamlike keyboards. It reminds me of Jean Michel Jarre experiments sometimes. It is not a joke. Tamtrum music is for your dance-floors, really. No guitars, only programmings, keyboards and vocals. 11 tracks to understand that. Another stuff about decadence of mankind. At last, you have to know that the band still plays gigs in Europe and they played with Punish Yourself frequently. Thus, I recommend you “Electronic blakc.mess” out of curiosity only.

TAMTRUM Some Atomik Songz (2004, La Chambre Froide, CD) by Fetishik. Coming from Marseille, the two crazy guys of Tamtrum want you to listen their music and abuse of it as if it where drugs because it is like drugs! This first full length album provocs the same effects such as excitement, madness and hysteria until the overdose! “Some Atomik Songz” could be a best of but it is a real album. Why could it be a best of? It is really simple: because every song of this opus is a hit! Mixing Dark Electro with furious Industial sounds and brutal Techno-Hardcore music, Tamtrum’s art will hypnotize you and songs such as “Datura Dream”, “Atomik Suicide” or “Tamtrum” are excellent exemples to illustrate my words. If you like ultraviolence and extreme attitude and lyrics, it is really impossible for you to hate Tamtrum. Sylv1_01 and and his singer are particulary influenced by cult bands like Hocico or Suicide Commando but their songs are really personal. Destruction, suicide, drugs and absence of hope are their favorite themes and it is perfectly expressed by the music. If you are sick in your mind, just listen to Tamtrum.

TAT comes back with a new opus called “Le sperme de tous les métaux” after its first release called “Quinta Essentia”. This time TAT chose Urgence Disk Records instead of “Creative Commons licence” but it is the same feeling there, like a sequel. Thus, the opus has feelings of sadness, pain, melancholy, despondency and also torments about it and it is explained with lyrics from Hermès, Thot, Baudelaire and also Unicornis. The whole is still intensified by acoustic guitars with baroque influences mixed with industrial or electronic parts sometimes. By the way, feel free to read the “Quinta Essentia” review to understand that TAT incontestably created its identity. Its music is very introverted and emotional. But this time the artist chose a remix of “Thalidomide” (played by Atopic) to end the opus. It was not essential in my opinion. Moreover, it contrasts too much with the whole. So, what on earth is it doing here ? Another version of “Thalidomide” is available too: “Absolution” and this time it reminds of Thalidomide “Reminiscence” played on “Quinta Essentia”. I’m ok with the Thalidomide acoustic version but at the same time it makes the end of the opus very repetitive and that’s why I marked “3/5” instead of “5/5”. Too bad because the rest of the opus is very bewitching with tracks such as “Unicornis”, “Putrefaction”, “O TAT” and “Subtiliation”. Esclarmonde’s female voice still accompany herself on the acoustic guitar parts with a great feeling and other voices complete this structure: Vx “Cheerleader”, Kader and Mic. Thus, “Le sperme de tous les métaux” remains faithful to « Quinta Essentia » on the whole and it is worth listening even if the end is not a success.

Tat is a French project created by Antoine Aureche with additional musicians : Esclarmonde, Cypher, Mic, Albérick, Kader & Flo. An hybrid experimental music and not usual at all into this quaint opus ! The most parts are acoustic guitars with classical, medieval, oriental and celtic influences mixed with electronic and noises samples sometimes, also with keyboards use. It begins with dissonant and dark classical guitars like a complaint, then “Quinta Essentia : part I” sounds like a funeral procession and then…“Rian Iridiagmar” !!! It takes you away in an odd dream ! This dream will never end before the end of the opus : guitars and female voices melodies on “Rian…” and “Vampyr” songs, also background males voices, give birth to something new that becomes a mix of ancient beliefs, magic and dark tales. This univers is strenghtened with percussions on “Mon rêve est un chêne creux”. It reminds of the use of Eros Necropsique’s keyboards sometimes but they add a mystic and positive emotional touch with the lyrics to make it different : “Listen to those trees, sons of Bilobä. And pray…”, “Don’t let your blood mortify your love, now bring your passions out of oblivion”. I’m fond of “Vampyr” because the Esclarmonde’s voice is so great on this track with highlands music influences and also with parts that sounds like Dead Can Dance. “Quinta Essentia : part II” is quite different such as a bizarre ritual with males voices that seems to celebrate the tragedy of the living. The ignorance of the living could be their tragedy. What are they waiting for to get knowledge ? In my opinion TAT choose to give birth to a highbrow music with the bringing of differents philosophical concepts : from “Gai Savoir” of F.W. Nietzsche to “Le testament de N. Flamel”, they give birth to different feelings beyond good and evil, Satan and God, a piece of dark and heavenly musical experiences. Maybe it is an advisability to discover the side projects of musicians inside because they all master their instruments. Furthermore, the mix and mastering of Samuel Maurin with TAT is quite good enough to make an opinion. All guitars and voices parts are very good, efficient and studied. I discovered a very creative and awesome band with this stuff. Into the night and into the light you will go with TAT anyway. I’m waiting for their next releases now.

Tenabrarum Infanteus took form in 2004. They’re french and come from Paris. Theirs first EP “Addiction” asserts their electro-goth-metal influences. The EP opens with “Temoin Funeste”, probably the most outstanding song (and my favorite one) where distorted guitars are entwinned with strong subtle keylines. The clean female voice and the grim male voice give a great diversity. “Allegeance” has more black metal influences, blending experimental keylines and brutal guitar riffs. The predominant male voice give all his power to the song. “Chrirurgie” begins with the sound of a heart machine, precisely when the heart is starting to fail. We are entering in death. In “Symbiose”, lyrics and keylines, more gentle, gives an impression of coldness and strength, underlining our soul has no more boundaries. And this ends with “qu’adviendrons nous” with melodic and subtle synthlines, relentless strong guitars and dark vocals, with an equilibrium resting between harmony and disharmony. Despite its diversity, this EP retains a thematic coherency throughout and describes a progression from the life to death. Admittedly, Tenebrarum Infanteus has delivered a very amazing and interesting debut.

Terrodrown is a French black industrial band born with Mr.Safe Destruct (guitars, samples, concept), Herbst (bass, lyrics, clean voices) and P.N. (synths, rythms, voices) during the 2005 year. 32,30 minutes of six tracks about a “ruined nation”.
The vocals remind of Graveland’s frontman and their music reminds of Infernum in many points excepting the industrial parts. The sound is as raw as their musical influences. Dark atmospheric keyboards, acoustic guitars and symphonic samples come to alternate with their black metal. So, don’t be afraid to find a lot of industrial and atmospheric breaks in most of the tracks. Listen to “Chtonian Civilization” or “Cult of Djihad” to understand it.
Black feelings with samples that remind of an horror’s movie soundtrack sometimes, typical raw and black metal blast parts that alternate with mid-tempo rythmics, this band do not let go an occasion to apply good ideas to their music. But I just was disappointed that they never mix their black metal parts with the industrial parts. Their music could be quite better if they would join both and this is what I hope most in future with their second release. Quite sure that you will find Lovecraft’s univers and lyrics about religions in other respects there.
At last, this opus ends with “The Chasm”. An escape ? Well, a travel  into a dark ambient univers without vocals such as the end of the human race, the end of space, the end of everything, the end of the opus in any case.

The French Underground Series : Sampler (15 french bands). CD 2004. Skull Fucked Prod. This cd sampler offers 15 tracks from 15 underground french metal bands. A good initiative ! It begins with Absurdity : Leader of Herd. This band plays a thrash death metal music added to hard core riffs. They have something new to propose because they use real accoustic percussions which remind Sepultura with their famous "Roots, bloody roots" opus sometimes. The production is correct and this band is inventive enough to take a place in the metal world. I hope they will follow this way. Then, Anorexia : Decline of Humanity. Thrash metal with grind vocals such as vocals on old Carcass releases. Raw sound. Pleasant but not really new musically and nor a side project of Anorexia Nervosa. Dark Mutcer : Psychotouch in the Megamix / Grind vocals again on various thrash metal riffs with a very raw sound. Do they recorded it into their garage ? 4 tracks to convince us...short songs !!! I think they need a better production to be more brutal but good ideas inside ! Efficacious ! Kontakt : Baptiste Moreau, 14 av. Charles du Refuge, 10120 Saint Andree des Vergers. Deep Vein : Maniac. Eh,eh !!!...Definitively not the cover of the famous movie ! Deep Vein propose a strong death metal with nordic influences. Excellent production. Take a look to the tape they released under the Nihilistic Holocaust prod banner. Dislocation : Medley : Profanateurs / Devotion / Rebellion. Brutal death in the vein of bands such as Suffocation but with more mid-tempos and more guitars melodies too and...violin !!!? Oh yes, violin ! What a surprise for this kind of metal !!! Various parts, breaks, and very inventive ! Gastrik Burst : Patrick Burst / Bien Gras. Clap your hands Patrick and welcome to you !!! We are Gastrik Burst and we kill you with our brutal death metal from Angoulême. We added punk and hard core riffs for you ! And what about our vocals ? Well, death but grind vocals too ! Hey, man I find this track very efficacious ! Hemafrost : Cox in Hell. It begins like an introduction to Hellraiser movie and follow with a thrash metal structure added to brutal death vocals. Breaks and lead guitars are here to talk about it ! Heresy : Bloody Ophiuchus. Brutal and fast death metal with typical breaks. Efficacious ! Nothing to add ! Heritiers de la Haine : lambs of Christ. Fast, fast and fast again to begin the track. Then mid-tempo follow...very short part and fast, fast, fast again in a thrash grind metal vein. Well, I think they have to progress to be more persuasive. Perhaps you will like it...Horrid Flesh : Sword of Sin. Brutal death thrash metal with black metal influences. It reminds Necrophobic sometimes. Pleasant but not new. Not boring but not inventive enough ! Manslaughter : Etre seul. Not the new band of Impulse Manslaughter members but death thrash metal with grind vocals. A lot of breaks such as Carbonized did in the past. So, you can consider it's strange and atmospheric sometimes. Peach Her : PvP on the rock / Pop Corpse / My fork is a poltergeist (part II). Original brutal death metal. Could you mix fusion metal with death metal brutality ? Peach Her do it on "PvP..." with brio and with a high production level ! I recommend you to listen to this band. Psychobolia : Faust. Conventional thrash metal with death metal vocals. Start of the End : Live in the Blasphemy. Typical death metal with a good production. Nothing to add ! Yrepan'Dead : It's crap / Suffer from premature ejaculation. What do they ejaculate with it ? Grind death in your face with a raw sound ! Is it crap ? Not really, but it does not convince me too ! A lot of bands do it from a long ago. But there is variations enough to be not completely desappointed. So, judge by yourself !

Finally ! The wait for this fourth The Stone studio album was unbearable insofar as the third album « Zakon Velesa » was great. It enabled Serbian black metal band The Stone (ex-Stone to flesh) to find their own sound and identity, followed by a very good 7 inch « Cujete li, smeju nam se mrtvi... » released in 2004. The Stone is powerful, skilfully performed black metal with good sound and raw raspy vocals. « Magla » is also very melodic, the album is sung in their native Serbian language. I discovered the band with « Slovenska krv », it was totally unknown. I still think that the band is underrated as only a few talk about it. There are great hymns on this fourth album such as « Testament of father Ariy », the title track « Magla » with a great increase in power and warlike drumming, « The plague » with a totally crushing introduction riff, a pure The Stone track. « Magla » ends with the epic ten-minute « Moon’s ray » : violent, melodic, raw, vicious. I recommend all of you black metal fans to listen to this album. It has come unnoticed but you still have time to catch up. This is a great fourth album by The Stone and I’m eagerly awaiting its follow-up.

Throned : ...There where the moon rises / 1 intro + 3 tracks (Throned / Equinoxe / Astraghon) 2003. Mcd. Throned play different kind of black metal on this stuff : two tracks with a mid-tempo black metal which remind old Bathory or Graveland tracks sometimes mixed with dark metal and viking metal influences. So, it sounds atmospherik and very melancholik and it's seconded by strong rythmik guitars with drums variations. Vokals are typikal black metal vokals but they added melodik backing vokals like it's used in viking metal bands. The last track is a little different bekause it's more infuenced by old Darkthrone releases and it kould be one of them if I didn't know it was played by Throned. A track in the vein of Darkthrone 's Panzerfaust or Transylvania Hunger really. So, it's a good stuff and I rekommand you it bekause they mixed it with a high sound quality. Also, you have to know that between 1995 and 1998, Throned writes these tracks that remain unreleased for personnal reasons. Then subsequently kompleted and finally rekorded in 2003 at the Twilight Studio. So, a new mcd is ready and it's kalled ...There where the moon rises and it's not disappointing at all. Pure black-metal inside !
