VACARME
: Feast of the cannibal (Vacarme 2004) cd. By HssH Another French
band from Alsace. Vacarme play old school thrash death metal with
conviction. Fast parts alternate with mid-tempo and with a lot
of breaks in all tracks. It reminds Carbonized parts sometimes.
So, they are inventive enough. 6 tracks on this stuff with a quite
sound recording. It talks about brutality of the human race and
you will feel it if you are into this kind of music. Now you feel
it all before you feel the death…Nothing to add !

A back to the roots with the new one ! After twenty years of agression
Voivod can still prove us that they’re alive, we’re
entering in the universe of Voivod like years ago. Unlike the
previous album, the band finds its own style with their surprising
rhytmics and disharmonics controlled incredibly well. A melodic
bass played by Jason Newsted who now formed part of the band,
the bass goes up the dynamics of the compositions and makes the
difference. It’s a pity that the bass player didn’t
leave earlier Metallica to rectify Voivod during this past years. We
also note particular inovations on the quality of the vocals .
A very good album that proves that the band has still blood in
his body and they’ll again impress us! The die-hards fans
should find their treasure even if they‘ve less liked the
previous one.

Vulpecula
is the project of two veterans of the American extreme metal scene
: Charles Keller from the death metal band Order from Chaos, now
in Ares Kingdom and Christopher Overton from Nepenthe as well
as drummer of Order from Chaos. Founded in 1994, Vulpecula’s
aim was to create some original music dealing with astral themes.
« In dusk apparition » is the only real album of the
band who released a demo entitled « Phoenix of the creation
», the « Fons immortalis » mini cd and a 10’’
mini lp before that. « In dusk apparition » was recorded
in 1997 and 1998 but is just released now in 2006 since Vulpecula
disbanded right after the recording. This is an excellent idea
of Invictus Productions to release this work since this is great.
Vulpecula plays technical and very melodic mid-tempo dark metal.
The vocals are similar to black metal and the production is correct
and definitely old school. The riffs are very inspired and do
not sound like anything else in nowadays extreme music. All songs
are great except « Major Tom (coming home) », a cover
of Peter Schilling, that seems a little out of context compared
to the other material. The musicians are skillful and have really
worked on their compositions. « In dusk apparition »
stands far away from the contemporary and dull crap we are given
these days, this is profound, this is something else. Hailz Vulpecula
!
