The
2007 year is very abundant with the out of excellent bands from
all over the world. This time, it comes from Sweden : it is called
Yggdrasil and the band plays metal mixed with traditional Nordic
influences. It reminds me of Otyg releases in that main and other
bands in that way. However Yggdrasil goes farther with the addition
of progressive, acoustic and heavy metal parts. Say “Yeaaaaaaaahhhh….”
on the first track called “I Nordens Rike” after the
manner of Destruction (Ger.) or Death Angel (Us). Then, stir your
arms and stir the fire in a folk-dance on “Vinter”,
the seven track. At last, discover manifold feelings with the
listening of the other tracks and you will be sure that you’re
listening a masterpiece. It is subtle, varied and played with
a quite good production. Two singers, a male and a female, take
pleasure in this musical quest to enlarge the whole. Thus, the
greater part of melodies is joined to a folk background and makes
this opus faultless. They chose Swedish language to express their
art and they worked it out so well. I end the review with two
informations: This is their first release after two demo material
and I recommend it to all of you. Also “Kvällningsvindar
över Nordrönt Land” recorded in 2005 and mastered
by Magnus Wohlfart in 2006.
